Theatre Stars Of The Future Invited To Half-Term Workshop

Budding stars of the stage are invited to take part in a half-term workshop to hone their skills.

Culminating in a performance at Clacton’s Princes Theatre, the Young Playwrights’ Workshop will see students work together to create, develop, rehearse and perform an original production.  The workshop is led by professional director and teacher Melissa Wenn, who heads up the Princes Youth Theatre.

Melissa said the workshop would teach skills such as improvisation, solo performance and playwriting.  “This workshop will help the ensemble develop a foundation of theatre skills which form the basis for creating new work,” she said.  “We want the workshops to inspire young performers to freely express their opinions and learn all ideas are important and considered. Engaging students with the arts encourages them to find their own voices, explore the world around them and empathise with others in new ways.”

Mick Skeels, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism at Tendring District Council, which runs the Princes Theatre, said this was a great opportunity for budding theatre stars.  “There are so many talented youngsters in our district and this workshop is a great way for them to develop their abilities, or for young people new to the theatre to give it a go,” Cllr Skeels said.  “I’d urge you to take part in what will be both a fun and informative workshop.”

The workshop sessions are held from 10am-4pm on Monday, February 18, 10am-2pm on Wednesday, February 20, and 10am-4pm on Friday, February 21, with a performance that evening at 6pm.

The workshop costs £40 for the three days.
