Youth Group Returns To The Theatre

Young actors will be returning to training following the latest easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

The Princes Youth Theatre will return on a limited basis from 23 September, having run virtual sessions during the height of lockdown.

Based at Clacton’s Princes Theatre, the group is a place for budding actors and directors to develop their skills.

With fewer people and a range of Covid-secure measures in place, the group will be back to business – with a focus on acting – later this month. Sessions must be pre-booked and paid for in advance as part of the safety measures.

Melissa Wenn, Princes Youth Group Director, said she was pleased to be able to re-start real-world meetings.

“Although our virtual sessions during lockdown were a success, nothing quite beats getting into the theatre itself,” she said.

“Drama and the arts provide a much-needed creative outlet for young people, particularly when there is so much else going on in their lives right now.”

Alex Porter, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Tourism at Tendring District Council, which runs the Princes Theatre, welcomed the group back to the stage.

“The Princes Youth Theatre does fantastic work – resulting in some spectacular shows – so I am pleased they are able to resume face-to-face meetings and develop the skills of young people in our area,” Cllr Porter added.
