Young Adult Carer Project

Young  Adult Carers are  young people aged 16 to 24 years who help to care for someone on a regular basis. This could be a parent , sibling, grandparent  who has a diagnosis of a long term disability  or illness including  conditions such as Cancer, Diabetes, Epilepsy, ADHD. They may also be providing care for someone with Mental Health problems or someone who misuses alcohol and/or drugs.

Action For Family Carers offer a range of support services including:

  • Practical and emotional support
  • Young adult carer chill n chats
  • ‘Focus On’ groups and workshops to help Young Adult carers access education and employment, improve health and wellbeing
  • One to one support sesions
  • Respite trips and activities
  • Support and guidance in partnership with local further education collegse
  • Information, signposting and guidance
  • Raising awareness about Young Adult Carers in the local community

 

There is also a Young Carers project supporting young carers aged 8 -18.  These projects provide support, information, accreditations, club nights, one-to-one school liaison workers, trips and respite breaks.
